Housing Developments

Program Overview

Allied housing is an affordable housing developer that specializes in developing small-scale housing developments that are affordable to families and households with special needs, such as persons with disabilities or households moving out of homelessness.

Our housing development work also focuses on providing affordable housing that is linked with supportive services
to assist low-income and special needs households to achieve and maintain housing stability and self-sufficiency.

Allied Housing increases the supply of affordable housing specifically in multifamily housing developments for small scale and special needs housing in Mid-, Eastern, and Southern Alameda County.

Allied Housing accomplishes this mission by both developing affordable and supportive housing as an owner and developer, and also by providing development consulting services to social service agencies who see the need for affordable housing development in their service area, but lack the necessary capacity and expertise to take on a project on their own.

Completed Projects

Allied's most recent project involved the acquisition and rehabilitation of a 9 unit apartment building in the City of Livermore. This building had suffered from years of neglect and overcrowding, but Allied Housing worked with the residents, community members and the City of Livermore to take over the building and create 9 newly renovated and affordable 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartments to serve the housing needs of low-income, large families in the Tri-Valley area.

Projects in Progress

Allied Housing is currently working in Castro Valley on the development of 28 units of new construction housing to serve the housing and service needs of formerly homeless and disabled households from the Mid-, Eastern, and Southern region of Alameda County.

These new housing units will be permanently affordable to very low-income households and will also be linked to an integrated network of on- and off-site services specifically designed to address the multiple needs of formerly homeless and disabled persons and their families. Additionally, universal designs are being incorporated in the unit plans, common spaces, and parking so that the entire development will be physically accessible and/or adaptable to persons with a variety of disabilities.

Development Consulting

Allied Housing also provides development-consulting services for organizations that may see the need for affordable housing in their service area, but who lack the development expertise or capacity to actually develop housing themselves. This consulting service can provide assistance with the overall development of a project or with particular pieces of a development, such as budget and finance development, zoning and entitlements, and/or construction management.

Currently, Allied Housing is partnering as a Development Consultant with Tri-City Homeless Coalition, a homeless shelter and service organization, to create 18 units of new construction housing units in the City of Fremont. This development will provide affordable, transitional and permanent housing for formerly homeless households. Some of these units will also be specifically targeted to serve special needs groups, such as disabled persons and youth aging out of foster care.

Allied Housing is also assisting Tri-Valley Haven, a homeless shelter and service organization in the City of Livermore, to acquire and rehabilitate a property to become an emergency shelter for homeless individuals and families in the Tri-Valley.
